THE GOOD, BETTER, "BEST" APPRAISER WORKSHOP

Our last Good, Better, "Best" Appraiser Workshop

on November 8 & 9, 2014 was a great success,

with 14 appraisers in attendance.

Keep checking back for our schedule of upcoming

workshops, including our new workshop

on Valuation Solutions

Our workshops are held at

The Potomack Company

The Potomack Company auction gallery is a 10,000 square foot facility

typically filled with antique and contemporary furniture, fine art, Asian art and

decorative accessories. Workshop participants will have access to view

and inspect the onsite consignments of fine art decorative art and accessories.

Appraisers fall into the good, better, best categories as do the objects we appraise. The objects we appraise are what they are, and good or better objects are never going to elevate themselves into best objects. However, good or better appraisers can elevate themselves to best by refining existing skills and learning new ones throughout their careers. The Good, Better, "Best" Workshop can help you refine your technical skills and expand your areas of specialization. New appraisers will gain the confidence and skills needed to act like old pros, and old pros will add new skills needed to expand a practice. The workshop will be held at the Potomack Company, in historic Old Town, Alexandria, Va. To facilitate an inter-active learning environment, the auction house will allow the workshop participants full access to all of the fine and decorative arts consignments for in-depth, hands-on inspections.

As the profession and markets change, continuing education programs are becoming more and more important to qualified appraisers. Soon there will be new education requirements for qualified appraisers from the Appraisal Foundation. The proposed qualifications for appraisers include "Credentialed appraisers are required to obtain seventy (70) hours of continuing education during each five (5) year period preceding credential. Twenty (20) hours of which must be in coursework related to valuation theory." Our workshop will dedicate part of one full day to valuation theory, the first class of it's kind.

There is no better offering or programs available for the appraiser to gain much needed hands on experience in inspecting and evaluating personal property. Don't miss this workshop.
